2008 NYRLCA STATE CONVENTION JUNE 28 - 30
For the second time in four years, the members of Tioga County RLCA and the NYRLCA Officers and Committees welcome all the rural letter carrier conventioneers and families to the 106th New York State Rural Letter Carriers' Convention.
Our National Officer at Convention this year will be Jeanette Dwyer. Click here for her biography!
With our past experience in the 2005 Convention and the gracious staff of the elegant Owego Treadway Inn and Conference Center, we know that you will have an enjoyable time. Click here for information on making your hotel reservation.
Located in the Southern Tier of Tioga County, the Village of Owego along the banks of the Susquehanna River was established in 1787. The downtown section of Front, Main, and Lake Streets, and Court House Square and North Avenue are filled with historic homes and buildings, numerous antique stores, craft shops, unique restaurants, and quaint coffee shops along River Row.
While for the first time,
this years convention is condensed into three business/meeting days on Saturday,
Sunday and Monday, plan to take an extra day or two to relax and enjoy the
area’s nearby sights. They include the Hickories Park, Tioga Gardens with its
unique tropical gardens, various museums, a paddle boat ride to historical
Hiawatha Island, or a scenic drive through the rolling countryside with its many
farms, including dairy, cattle, alpaca and even buffalo. Just down Route 17 to Nichols, Tioga Downs and Racino offers harness racing and 750 video gaming choices. There are also parks for basketball, skateboarding, roller blading and easy access fishing spots along the shores of the Susquehanna. For the motor sports enthusiasts, there are four action stock car race tracks, one drag race track, and a couple of motorcycle tracks operating within a 30-45 minute drive.
Currently in the plans is a Golf Tournament scheduled for State Convention Weekend Friday June 27, 2008 cost $50.00 per player sign up as a team or individually. To sign up call Fred Kinner at 607-737-0569 or e-mail Fredfrmny@aol.com. Details will be in the next Newsletter, please sign up early so we can get an idea how many teams we will have. In addition, the fine hospitality and excellent food service of the Owego Treadway Inn will make our Friday night, June 27th Ice Breaker and Sunday night’s Banquet the most enjoyable get-togethers, along with the Buffet Breakfasts and Lunches of the three day Meal Plan.
The joint session will begin on Saturday June 28 at 8:30 AM and will be followed by the start of the business session. Business will continue on Sunday June 29 and conclude on Monday June 30.
